The Herrington mission of the Squadron Leader Manfred Czernin was parachuted in the Bergamo area at the end of the war. Its aim was to help local partisans, worn out by the long winter, and hinder enemy movements. However, both the mission and the partisans went beyond their assignment. Partisan leaders were eager to battle the enemy and Czernin proved to be on the same wavelength. After they received their airdropped supplies, thus, they proceeded to flush the enemy out of the Alps and then they marched on Bergamo.

You can follow their movements on this map to discover more about them.
