The Ruina mission, parachuted in August 1944 on the bottom of mount Paù, worked in an area that comprised mount Grappa, Asiago, Recoaro and Schio. The mission was forced to move around a lot in this zone because of the frequent rastrellamenti and, more importantly, to meet the various partisan leaders in order to solve the issue of the unified Command.

Those trips are perhaps the reason for Major Wilkinson's fame. The Major often visited villages by bike or car and soon became a familiar face for the population.
